Euros Childs Gorky Dispenser was honoured to interview Euros Childs in the spirit of Christmas Carol about the past, the present and his future plans!Gorky Dispenser: How did the recording of the new album Cheer Gone go? Euros Childs: Very well. We we're booked into the studio for ten days at the end of an American tour last year. We'd record from around eleven in the morning till around six, playing live and at the end of the sixth day we'd recorded all the songs. We mixed for the last four days. GD: Did recording in America influence the writing and recording of the album? EC: The songs had all been written before we went to America. Oddly enough I thought as I'd never recorded in another country It would feel somehow different but I didn't think about it really. GD: Why did you choose Mark Nevers to record the record the album with? EC: I'd heard the records he'd recorded with Bonnie Prince, Billy Lampchop and Candi Statton and liked the sound of them. GD: How does writing, recording and playing live as a solo artist compare to playing in a band? EC: When I'm touring and recording I'm still with people, I'm not going out every night playing piano on my own. That would be a bit crap and lonely. Luckily I get on really well with Pete and Steve who play live with me. Also I've always written mostly on my own so that side of things hasn't changed. GD: Will the remastered versions of Patio, Tatay and Bwyd Time be finally released? Is there any chance for a Gorky's DVD with promo videos and live tracks? EC: I'm even sure who owns those records. Sanctuary owned them and we were so slow getting round to sorting everything out that they went bust in the meantime, they were taken over by Universal so maybe they own them. The best bet would be to download them or buy them second hand. And just for the record we did remaster them but after doing it we realised that the originals sounded better, so If they ever come out they'll be exactly like the originals. There are no plans for a dvd. Also, there never was a bonus disc of unreleased material. That was just a scam thought up by someone in Sancturay, we had nothing to do with it. The unreleased tracks were just tracks from the compilation 20 and radio session tracks. We were dead set against it. It was just a cheap ploy to charge more for the cds and take advantage of fans. How they came up for sale on Amazon with the bonus disc I do not know, they never physically existed, not even cobiscuitmpiled ( somehow the word 'biscuit' has slotted itself between the 'co' and 'mpiled' of 'compliled'). GD: Will Gorky's return? EC: No. GD: What had been your best / worst experiences either in Gorky's or as a solo artist? EC: It's always a good feeling to have finished a new record, and it's always a bit of a downer when you don't even know your own record has been released. This happened with the new album Cheer Gone. There were problems with the artwork and the release date had changed about three times, I was stressing out, worrying that it wasn't even going to come out this this year, when all along it was in the shops. It had been out for two weeks without me knowing. I found out from someone who knew someone who knew someone who'd seen it in the shops. It was frustrating because I wanted to tell people that the record was available to buy but without knowing myself I couldn't do that. GD: What are the plans for the future with regards to future tours, albums etc.? EC: I'm recording a new album at the moment so that should keep me busy throught the winter. Then next year release it and start again.
